New highway announced in Bolivia

Bolivia’s highway expansion programme continues with plans unveiled for a new project worth some US$400 million. The highway will be located in the vicinity of Cochabamba. Discussions over financing the project have been carried out with the Latin American Development Bank (CAF). A timeline for the project has not so far been announced however. The route of the highway has also to be announced.

    Construction work for an 82km stretch of road in Bolivia is proceeding within the planned schedule. Work on the new road should be complete in July-August 2018. The new road section will provide an improved connection from Riberalta to El Triangulo, located in Beni State in the north-east of Bolivia. Construction work is being carried out by a Chinese contractor and in all, the project is for a 508km stretch of road with the total project expected to cost US$608 million.

    A new plan for improving Ecuador’s road network has been set out by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP). At present the state road network stretches for a total of 10,132km but responsibility for maintaining 1,644km of these roads has now been handed over from MOTP to several Prefectures or to a number of private firms.   • Serbia reduces cost of highway construction

    Serbia has managed to reduce the cost of building the Corridor 10 highway by €80 million. These funds will instead be used to pay for upgrades and improvements needed for the second section of the highway project, close to Neradovci. So far some 180km of the Corridor 10 highway has been built over a 40 month time frame. A further 150km of the highway has still to be built. Work on the Corridor 10 motorway is also being financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the state budget.
