Construction work is being planned in Colombia for the route connecting Popayan and Pasto. The project will form part of Colombia’s fifth generation (5G) road development programme.

Planning is underway at present. The tender process is being prepared. Construction work itself should commence in 2021, following the award of the contract.

The work to upgrade the 268km road link is expected to cost some US$1.48 billion. The route runs through Rosas and El Bordo in a mountainous region in Colombia’s South West and will present numerous engineering challenges. Improving the route will boost safety and capacity as the existing route features numerous sharp curves. Travel time will also be reduced considerably once the new road has been built.
