A new tunnel is now being built as part of the bypass around the historic German town of Pirna. The Kohlberg tunnel will be part of the southern bypass and will measure 300m in length.

The project is expected to cost €42.6 million and is due for completion in 2023. Building the tunnel section will provide an important link for the bypass, while elivering environmental benefits by preserving a forest area around the town.

Pirna sits on the banks of the River Elbe, a short distance upstream from the city of Dresden.
