New bridge for Lowestoft in Suffolk

The tender process is being restarted for a new bridge in Lowestoft. The project is expected to cost some €68.2 million. The bridge will be designed so that it can be raised, allowing vessels to pass underneath. This will be the third crossing spanning Lake Lothing. Unlike the existing bascule bridge however, the new structure will provide a higher clearance so that some vessels will be able to pass underneath without having to raise the bridge, reducing traffic disruption on the road link. The tender process is being restarted for a new bridge in Lowestoft. The project is expected to cost some €68.2 million. The bridge will be designed so that it can be raised, allowing vessels to pass underneath. This will be the third crossing spanning Lake Lothing. Unlike the existing bascule bridge however, the new structure will provide a higher clearance so that some vessels will be able to pass underneath without having to raise the bridge, reducing traffic disruption on the road link. When complete, the Lake Lothing Third Crossing will connect Waveney Drive on the south side, to Denmark Road and Peto Way on the north side of Lake Lothing. Construction is intended to commence in 2020, with completion hoped for 2022.
