New bridge for Canada?

Plans may be changed for Canada's US$1 billion Patullo Bridge project.
March 5, 2012 Read time: 1 min
Plans may be changed for Canada's US$1 billion Patullo Bridge project. The original plan was for a six lane bridge with three lanes of traffic in either direction, however cost concerns are forcing a rethink and the new bridge may now feature just two lanes in either direction. Another option may be to refurbish the existing structure. Canada's regional transportation network operator, 3100 TransLink, is reconsidering its plans for the crossing. Around 20% of the 76,000 vehicles/day crossing the Fraser River use the Pattullo Bridge. Options being considered also include cutting tolls on another crossing in the locality. The public consultation for the project has been pushed back from November 2010 to June 2011.
