New Argentina-Uruguay bridge under discussion

A new bridge could be built to improve transport connections between Uruguay and Argentina. The project was discussed by the heads of state of both countries recently. The bridge would be constructed to connect Zarate in Argentina’s Buenos Aires Province with Nueva Palma, just over the border in Uruguay. The new bridge would provide a link from Argentina’s highway 12 with Uruguay’s highway 21, while the discussions have also included the possibility of the new crossing carrying rail lines in addition to roa

A new bridge could be built to improve transport connections between Uruguay and Argentina. The project was discussed by the heads of state of both countries recently. The bridge would be constructed to connect Zarate in Argentina’s Buenos Aires Province with Nueva Palma, just over the border in Uruguay. The new bridge would provide a link from Argentina’s highway 12 with Uruguay’s highway 21, while the discussions have also included the possibility of the new crossing carrying rail lines in addition to road traffic. However this new bridge represents a different project from the previously proposed crossing further downstream between Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires and Colonia.

Meanwhile interest is said to be strong in the tender process to construct a new highway in Argentina, with the project expected commence during 2017 and take 24 months to carry out. The US$400 million project to construct the San Francisco-Rio Primero highway is being financed jointly by the IADB and by the Argentinian Government.
