Myanmar road and viaduct project planned

A new road and viaduct project will be built in Myanmar. The plans call for the new viaduct to run parallel to the existing Gokteik viaduct. In addition the project will also include the construction of a new bypass road. The project is being overseen by the Myanmar Government and is worth US$120 million, with work due to start shortly. The project will be developed by Oriental Consultant and is envisaged as a build, operate and transfer agreement.

A new road and viaduct project will be built in Myanmar. The plans call for the new viaduct to run parallel to the existing Gokteik viaduct. In addition the project will also include the construction of a new bypass road. The project is being overseen by the Myanmar Government and is worth US$120 million, with work due to start shortly.     The tender process is being planned for the Myanmar-Korea Friendship Bridge, which will connect Myanmar’s commercial centre Yangon to Dala Township. Over $137 million in loans have been pledged by the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund to develop the 1.87km long suspension bridge.     Overpass projects are being planned for Myanmar to help cut traffic congestion in key areas around the country’s commercial centre, Yangon. One project proposal has been submitted by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This will see the development of elevated roads on the Wai Zayandar Road. The cost of constructing the elevated roads has been estimated at some US$2 billion. The project looks likely to be carried out under build-operate-transfer model.

    Three road tunnels have been proposed as part of a highway project by the Myanmar Government. The tunnels would run through the Wa Ta Lone Mountain, Khauk Nwe Mountain 1 and Khauk New Mountain 2 in the Shan Mountains. The tunnels would form part of the project for the Taunggyi-Loilin road in Shan State. A study into the tunnels will be carried out by the Myanmar Government.
