Multi-purpose bridge options

Multi-purpose bridges are being proposed as suitable infrastructure options for Bangladesh as well as to link Argentina and Paraguay.

Multi-purpose bridges are being proposed as suitable infrastructure options for Bangladesh as well as to link Argentina and Paraguay. In Bangladesh funding worth US$300 million is targeted at the Padma Multipurpose Bridge. This proposed bridge crosses Bangladesh's Padma River and will feature an upper deck for road transport and a lower deck for a single-track railway.

Meanwhile in South America, feasibility studies are underway at present for a new bridge to link Paraguay with Argentina. The proposed crossing would connect Paraguay’s Neembuco department with one of Argentina’s north-eastern provinces. At present this link is by a ferry service at the moment, limiting goods transport. One option being discussed is the possibility of a combined road and rail bridge.

  • Ecuador’s new bridge to be built in sections

    Ecuador is working on plans for the new South Crossing Bridge (SCB) spanning the Guayas River, to improve transport connections for the port of Guayaquil. The plans call for the SCB to be constructed in three sections, with the project expected to cost US$1.04 billion.
