One of Morocco’s most dangerous roads could get tunnels in a bid to improve its safety. A feasibility study on the potential installation of tunnels on the RN9 mountain-passing route will begin in December 2014.
Plans are being formulated for a road tunnel in Bhutan, with phase one of a feasibility study now having been completed by the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI).
The work on the feasibility study for the proposed Java bridge connection in Indonesia is proving favourable so far. However this project is likely to be highly expensive and its future depends on decisions yet to be made by the country’s government. So far some 19 companies have been involved in the work on the feasibility study. If the project gets the go ahead, it could conceivably cost some US$13.05 billion to construct. Interest is strong in the proposed tunnel linking Chile and Argentina. Some 37 companies have shown expressions of interest in the US$1 billion Agua Negra road tunnel. This includes 22 consortia and includes Latin American firms such as Panedile, Techint, Camargo Correa, Jose Cartellone.
