Morocco’s road expansion programme is proving successful and meeting targets. At the end of 2013, the country had some 730km of expressways in service. Morocco’s road expansion programme is proving successful and meeting targets. At the end of 2013, the country had some 730km of expressways in service. The building programme continues and by 2016, the authorities hope to extend this to 1,600km. However a study into the possibility of creating expressways between industrial zones and logistics platforms now has to be carried out to help deliver the road expansion targets. One option is for building expressways that run in parallel with highways to link two regions, such as Tétouan and Fès. Several projects are planned for 2014, including works on the 102km route between Nador and Oujda, the widening of the 148.5km Taza to Al Hoceima route and the doubling of the 27km stretch of road between Ksar Kbir and Larache.

  • Progress being made for key Chile mega projects

    Progress is being made in Chile for two key mega projects, the Chacao Bridge and the El Melon Tunnel. Chile's Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has ordered the consortium working on the Chacao Bridge project to carry out additional studies.     Ethiopia is set to benefit economically from investment in a number of new key road links totalling over US$1 billion. The east African nation’s 218km Modjo-Hassan highway is expected to cost US$720 million to construct. The highway will be constructed in two stages.     The first stage of a controversial Russian bridge project is now complete, with the link having been opened to use by cars and buses. The Kerch Strait bridge spans the Black Sea, connecting Russia’s Taman Peninsula in Krasnodar with Crimea, the latter having been controversially annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014.
