The Moroccan Government is opening up the tender process for studies on a major motorway project in the country. This crucial connection is of regional significance for North Africa as it will link Morocco with Mauritania, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria. The trans-Maghreb motorway project is of enormous economic importance for North Africa as it will facilitate trade and transport between the nations. The Moroccan Ministry for Equipment, Transport and Logistics is opening the tenders for two studies. One study is for the motorway that will link Morocco’s southern regions, connecting Guelmin to Guergarat on the Mauritian border. This project is at the environmental impact and profitability studies stage. The other study is for a link connecting the Fès-Oujda motorway to Algeria’s East-West highway. While the Fès-Oujda motorway has been operational since 2011, East-West highway has suffered a number of delays. Algeria’s Ministry for Public Works recently terminated a contract with Japanese group COJAAL.
