Morocco to receive EIB funds for road projects

Moroccan road development fund CFR (Caisse pour le Financement Routier) is to receive a US$206.96 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The funds will be used for road modernisation in order to reduce congestion and improve the safety of road users. Around 30 sites will be modernised and 1,650km of roads will be widened.

    Road in the area around Mindanao in the Philippines will benefit from the provision of a loan worth US$380 million. This funding package is being supplied by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The loan will be used for the Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector project. This is intended to improve and upgrade up to 280km of roads in the area. A further $123 million is being provided by the Philippines Government for the work, which will cost $503 million in all.

    Funding is being secured for a road rebuild and widening project in Tajikistan. The 82km road runs between Dushanbe and Bokhtar and the work should be complete by 2023. The Chinese contractor Xinjiang Beixin is working on phase 1 of the project, building a 33km stretch of the route that is costing US$96 million.
