Morocco is developing its highway network

Morocco continues to invest in its road network as part of the transport expansion programme designed to improve connectivity to all towns and villages. The country’s highway network currently extends to 1,416km in all and with projects that are continuing or were initiated in 2013, the Works and Transport Ministry expects to meet its target of 1,800km of highway network by 2015. Morocco’s network of minor roads is also being extended
Morocco continues to invest in its road network as part of the transport expansion programme designed to improve connectivity to all towns and villages. The country’s highway network currently extends to 1,416km in all and with projects that are continuing or were initiated in 2013, the Works and Transport Ministry expects to meet its target of 1,800km of highway network by 2015. The main projects in 2014 include the 172km motorway linking Berrechid to Béni Mellal, which is costing US$736 million and the 143km motorway linking Safi to El Jadida, which is costing an estimated $482.66 million. These highways will be connected to the towns and villages by minor roads, for which the network is also being extended.

Morocco’s Ministry for Infrastructure, Transport and Logistics is currently carrying out studies on over 20 PPPs. The road projects built under PPPs include the Guercif-Nador West Med, Tanger-Tétouan, Safi-Marrakech, Béni Mellal-Fès-Meknès and Agadir-Guelmim motorways.
