Construction of a bridge and two new tunnels on Montenegro’s Bar-Boljare highway will go ahead. Permission for the projects was given by the country’s Ministry of Sustainable Development. The work is for the new Zagradje Bridge link as well as the Mrki Krs and Durilovac tunnels, which will be constructed for the 41km highway stretch from Smokovac to Matesevo. The Zagradje Bridge will in fact feature dual structures carrying traffic in either direction, with one measuring 100m long and the other 150m. The construction will be carried out jointly by the contractors 3366 China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and Tingdzi Peng as well as three local firms, Putin, Geo Max and Ingenium. Construction of the highway stretch joining Smokovac, Uvac and Matesevo commenced in May 2015. The complexity of this highway is a result of the difficult terrain along the route. This has resulted in the comparatively high pricetag of €800 million with the work including building four major junctions, five viaducts, 13 bridges and 16 tunnel sections.
