Work is now starting on the new road tunnel connecting with the Port of Miami. The link will run under the Biscayne Bay and the project is now moving forward following agreements being reached between the 2697 Florida Department of Transportation and Miami Beach mayor Matti Herrera Bower. The major road construction work will start at the end of summer 2010. Tunnel boring for the parallel tubes will start in early 2011 and will take a year to complete. The project is expected to cost US1 billion and is due for completion in the second quarter of 2014.
