Mexico’s strong road investment programme for 2014

The Mexican Government says it has managed to boost road investment in 2014, compared with 2013. According to the Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT), investment in road projects between January and October 2014 hit US$5.39 billion, some $56 million more than for the whole of 2013. The Mexican Government says it has managed to boost road investment in 2014, compared with 2013. According to the Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT), investment in road projects between January and October 2014 hit US$5.39 billion, some $56 million more than for the whole of 2013. Mexico’s National Infrastructure Project (PNI) includes 266 government pledges, of which the SCT is responsible for 105. By the end of 2014, there will be four new motorways n Mexico costing over MXN 4bn (the Mazatlan and Oriente de Chihuahua bypasses, the Salamanca-Irapuato stretch of the Salamanca-Leon road, and the Colima-Tonala stretch of the Guadalajara-Colima road). In addition some 90 roads and rural paths are being built or modernised across Mexico.

  • Major Mexico highway route open to traffic

    An important bypass route in Mexico’s Jalisco State is now open to traffic. The Guadalajara Bypass is a four lane route that cost US$479 million to construct and stretches 111km. Now that the bypass is open to traffic it is expected to help reduce congestion in the centre of Guadalajara, as vehicles will no longer have to enter the city when travelling onwards.     Mexico will set up four road maintenance tenders worth nearly US$827 million in total as public-private partnerships in 2017. Contracts will cover the road projects Piramides-Tulancingo-Puebla, Matehuala-Saltillo, Saltillo-Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo and Texcoco-Zacatepec, according to the El Economista newspaper.
