Mexico highway projects under construction

Mexico has no less than 20 major highway projects currently under construction. Of these, eight of the highway projects should be complete by the end of 2016. The highway projects are being delivered for Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT), which is also overseeing the work. In addition to the highway projects, SCT is also overseeing road maintenance and upgrade activities to some 12,900km of federal roads.     Plans are in hand to upgrade a major highway in Mexico’s Sonoro state. A budget of US$1.6 billion has been set in place for the necessary work. The highway will be widened and will feature two traffic lanes in either direction once the work is complete.     Mexico has set a major programme of infrastructure development, which is currently in progress for Puebla State. In all the budget for the programme is US$1.35 billion, with the work having been planned by the Mexican Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) for the 2012-2018 period.

    The Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) has confirmed that a total of 1,474 road infrastructure contracts were granted in the first half of 2015. This work is costing in the region of US$1.02 billion. A total of 74% of these contracts were awarded to Mexican companies, whilst 26% corresponded to foreign firms. SCT informed that 31 projects were concluded so far in 2015 and added that 12 additional initiatives were expected to be completed by the end of the year.
  • Mexican motorway under construction

    Construction work is underway for Mexico’s Atizapan-Atlacomulco motorway project. The project will now be complete in 2021, although it was originally planned to be ready for traffic in 2016. A series of delays hit the contractor originally working on the project, which then resulted in Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) awarding the contract to another group. The concession for the project is now being handled by Aleatica.
