The route is of major importance to Nigeria and carries a heavy traffic volume at present. Constructing the dual carriageway will pose challenges given the topography at various sections of the route. Also in Nigeria, Chinese funding will finance work to complete the link from Oron to Calabar in the south east of the country. Meanwhile in south western Nigeria, an upgraded road link will improve access to the international airport in Lagos.
