Major highway project awarded in Mexico

Mexican construction firm Impulsora del Desarrollo y el Empleo en America Latina (Ideal) has won a major US$623.4 million contract to construct the Macrolibramiento de Guadalajara link in the country. This link is for a large-scale ring road in Mexico’s Guadalajara metropolitan zone.

    The Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) has confirmed that a total of 1,474 road infrastructure contracts were granted in the first half of 2015.   • A major new tunnel being built in Mexico

    Plans are in hand in Mexico for a new road tunnel that will provide a key link. The 7km tunnel will be constructed at Acapulco port, in Guerrero state. The project is expected to cost in the order of US$214.75 million to complete. Work is due to commence in late January 2013 and should be completed within a two year time scale. The new tunnel will help improve logistics and communications for firm using the port. The project is being carried out by Mexican contractor ICA.

    An important bypass route in Mexico’s Jalisco State is now open to traffic. The Guadalajara Bypass is a four lane route that cost US$479 million to construct and stretches 111km. Now that the bypass is open to traffic it is expected to help reduce congestion in the centre of Guadalajara, as vehicles will no longer have to enter the city when travelling onwards.
