Major highway link for Albania

Construction work has started on Albania’s latest highway project, which will connect the capital Tirana with the city of Elbasan in the centre of the country. Construction work on a 32km stretch of the highway, including a 4.3km tunnel, is being carried out by Greek contractor Aktor.

    Albania’s Ministry of Transportation has announced that the northern part of the Thirre Tunnel on the Rreshen-Kalimash Highway is due for completion in October.     Cost reductions sought The transport authorities in Montenegro are still considering ways to reduce the construction costs of the Bar-Boljare highway. Croatian company Konstruktor is still keen to work on the highway project, which it priced at €2.7 billion.     Construction will commence on the new connection from Kosovo’s capital Pristina to Nis in Serbia. The first stretch of the highway to be built will be the 77km section from Nis to Merdare in Serbia.
