Construction is now underway for a major road project in Florida, which is intended to cut traffic congestion in Citrus County. Costing an estimated US$103 million, the work is for phase of Florida's Suncoast Parkway 2 project.

The project involves building a 5km stretch of tolled road featuring two lanes in either direction. This will connect SR 44 and CR 486, with the work expected to be complete by 2026.

The work includes completing the interchange at SR 44 to allow northbound traffic movements. Construction for southbound traffic movements is currently underway as part of the Suncoast Parkway 2 from US 98 to SR 44. There will be a new at-grade intersection at CR 486 as well as an electronic tolling system.

The work also includes the extension of the Suncoast Trail, which is part of Florida’s Statewide Greenways and trails system. The project is being managed by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
