Lithuania highway rebuild project planned

A 40km stretch of the E67 Via Baltica highway connecting Lithuania with neighbouring Poland is to be rebuilt and upgraded. The section of E67 highway being improved will be between Marijampole (located to the west of Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius) and passing by Kalvarija the Polish border. Work is expected to commence in 2021 and the stretch should be complete by 2025. In all the work is expected to cost €300 million. The work is being planned by the Lithuanian Road Administration (LAKD) on behalf of the Ministry of Transport.

In addition, plans are in hand to improve the Liepkalnio-Zirniu intersection in Vilnius. The work will be carried out by two Lithuanian contractors, Fegda and Tilsta. The contract is worth €31 million and the work is expected to take 18 months to complete.

The tender process is now underway and 40km of the highway is to be offered under a concession package. Construction of the highway is planned to commence in 2015, with completion expected in 2018.

  • Cambodia construction contract commencing

    Cambodia’s capital’s key connection construction contract is commencing. Work is now underway for the Phnom Penh ring road project. The new ring road will measure 53km long and funding for the US$273 million project is being provided jointly by the Cambodian Government and Chinese Government.     The first stage of a controversial Russian bridge project is now complete, with the link having been opened to use by cars and buses. The Kerch Strait bridge spans the Black Sea, connecting Russia’s Taman Peninsula in Krasnodar with Crimea, the latter having been controversially annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014. The official opening of the 19km-long bridge was carried out by Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, who drove across the link in a Russian-manufactured Kamaz truck to reach the city of Kerch.
