Leighton scores hat-trick of Hong Kong Central – Wan Chai Bypass tunnel jobs

Leighton Asia, India and Offshore has secured a contract worth US$408.14 million to construct the tunnel buildings, systems and fitting out works associated with the Central - Wanchai Bypass (CWB) tunnel in Hong Kong. This is the third project to be awarded to Leighton on the Central - Wanchai Bypass (CWB) project by the HKSAR's Highways Department, following the award of the 2010 contract for the construction of the Central Interchange and the Central Reclamation Phase III in 2009.

Leighton Asia, India and Offshore has secured a contract worth US$408.14 million to construct the tunnel buildings, systems and fitting out works associated with the Central - Wanchai Bypass (CWB) tunnel in Hong Kong.

This is the third project to be awarded to Leighton on the Central - Wanchai Bypass (CWB) project by the HKSAR's Highways Department, following the award of the 2010 contract for the construction of the Central Interchange and the Central Reclamation Phase III in 2009.

Leighton is to install extensive specialist electrical and mechanical (E&M) works, including route-wide tunnel E&M works, traffic control and surveillance systems, road tunnel wall cladding works, the tunnel roof thermal barrier and the tunnel road pavement construction for the complete tunnel from Central to North Point. It also includes the construction and fit out of ventilation buildings and an administration building.

Due to open in 2017, the CWB will be a 4km trunk road running between Central and Causeway Bay in Hong Kong Island. The CWB’s 2.3km dual three-lane tunnel, being worked on by Leighton Asia, India and Offshore, will run under new reclamation areas which will be provided by Central and Wan Chai Reclamation project, and also connections to Connaught Road West flyover and Island Eastern Corridor. When completed, the CWB will substitute Connaught Road Central, Harcourt Road and Gloucester Road to be part of Route 4.
