Plans for a new highway connection in Kosovo are being drawn up at present. Construction work on the highway, which will link Kosovo’s capital Pristina with Merdare in neighbouring Serbia, is expected to start in the second quarter of 2021.

The new highway stretch is expected to cost around €250 million to construct. Financing sources for the project have yet to be announced. The new highway will form part of the E851 route, which already links Pristina with Albania’s capital Tirana to the south, as well as the Albanian port of Durrës. To the north of Pristina, this new highway section will connect with the E80 that runs through Serbia and links with other routes to the north.
