Key Qatar projects underway

Work is now being carried out on three major road projects in Qatar. The work is worth over US$2.58 billion in all. One project is for an upgrade to the North Road corridor. This will add dedicated cycle tracks and pedestrian bridges and another lane to the main carriageway between Al Khartiyat and Duhail. The work is due for completion in the last quarter of 2016. Work is now being carried out on three major road projects in Qatar. The work is worth over US$2.58 billion in all. One project is for an upgrade to the North Road corridor. This will add dedicated cycle tracks and pedestrian bridges and another lane to the main carriageway between Al Khartiyat and Duhail. The work is due for completion in the last quarter of 2016. Another project is for the $980 million Lusail Expressway, which is 5.3km long and due for completion on 2017. The third is for the 9.9km long Dukhan Road (East) project, worth some $1.02 billion and scheduled for completion by 2017. This last also includes some 10km of microtunnelling, as well as the construction of 3.4km of Al Gharafa Road and 6.5km of dual carriageway.

    Qatar is setting the wheels in motion for the development of a comprehensive highway network. Engineering firm KBR is working on a three year, US$185 million consultancy contract to manage Qatar’s highway construction and improvement programme.   • Cutting congestion in Colombia’s capital with combined connectivity concept

    A new transport plan for Colombia’s capital, Bogota, is intended to cut congestion. The plans are being drawn up by Bogota council's Urban Development Institute (IDU). In all 75 separate works are included in the plan, ranging from building or upgrading 155km of roads to constructing 183km of cycle lanes.   • Mexican highway projects underway

    The Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) has confirmed that a total of 1,474 road infrastructure contracts were granted in the first half of 2015. This work is costing in the region of US$1.02 billion. A total of 74% of these contracts were awarded to Mexican companies, whilst 26% corresponded to foreign firms. SCT informed that 31 projects were concluded so far in 2015 and added that 12 additional initiatives were expected to be completed by the end of the year.
