Kenya road upgrade with asphalt surfacing

An upgraded road link will provide improved transport connections for the towns of Ikutha, Mutomo, Kitui, Kabati and Migwani in Kenya. The road is now being surfaced with asphalt along its length, with the work costing US$182 million. This road stretch connects with the main Nairobi-Mombasa highway at Kibwezi and will provide a much needed transport upgrade for the towns it serves. An upgraded road link will provide improved transport connections for the towns of Ikutha, Mutomo, Kitui, Kabati and Migwani in Kenya. The road is now being surfaced with asphalt along its length, with the work costing US$182 million. This road stretch connects with the main Nairobi-Mombasa highway at Kibwezi and will provide a much needed transport upgrade for the towns it serves. The work is being carried out on Route 87 from Kibwezi to the junction at Katheka, and then along the C94 to Migwani. The C94 then connects with the main A3 highway that runs between Nairobi and Liboi, on the border with Somalia. This road improvement project will deliver a boost t economic development in the area as it is the first time sections of the route have been surfaced with asphalt in 55 years.

    An upgrade is planned for the road connecting Uganda with Kenya at the Suam-Bukwo-Kapchorwa border crossing. The majority of the project costs will be paid for by a loan package worth US$94.5 million being provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The remaining $11.2 million needed for the work will be paid by the Ugandan Government.     Work is starting on an upgrade for a 100km stretch of road in Zambia. The route connects Nchelenge and Chiengi districts and will benefit from a new asphalt surface. The project is costing US$77 million and is being carried out by the contractor Sinohydro Zambia. Delays to the work have been caused by heavy rains however. The Zambian Government has paid an initial $3.8 million for the work to be carried out and the project is expected to take two years to complete.
