The new Sheikh Zayed Bridge in Abu Dhabi is now carrying traffic. The US$266.6 million bridge measures 845m long and features eight traffic lanes, with four in either direction and was designed by architect 4122 Zaha Hadid. This new structure connects Abu Dhabi to the mainland and will help cope with the rapidly increasing traffic volumes in the area. The structure features an innovative design combining concrete pre-stressed boxes, steel arches and a cable stayed section, with much of the engineering work having been carried out by consultant 3096 High Point Rendel.
