Indonesia’s road network continues to grow

Indonesia’s road network is growing at a healthy pace, though further expansion is required to meet demand. At the end of 2013, the total length of Indonesia’s national road network was 38,750km. This marks a significant increase from the total of 34,628km recorded in 2004. Meanwhile the total length of the country’s road network has increased to from 373,523km in 2004, to 508,968km in 2013. Indonesia’s road network is growing at a healthy pace, though further expansion is required to meet demand. At the end of 2013, the total length of Indonesia’s national road network was 38,750km. This marks a significant increase from the total of 34,628km recorded in 2004. Meanwhile the total length of the country’s road network has increased to from 373,523km in 2004, to 508,968km in 2013. Total toll road length in Indonesia has increased from 595km in 2004 to 784 km in 2013. A further 329km of toll roads will be added to the network by the end of 2014. Some 258 km of toll roads are under development including the Cinere-Jagorawi; Bogor Ring Road; Surabaya-Mojokerto; Kanci-Pejagan; Semarang-Solo; and Bali Mandara toll roads.

    A series of major highway projects are now moving ahead in Indonesia. One of the projects is for part of the Trans-Java Toll Road. Work is now starting to build the route and this new 759km toll road will connect Surabaya and Jakarta.     Steady progress is being seen in Indonesia with regard to the construction of its major toll roads. A series of key routes are expected to start operations by the end of 2018. Banten’s Merak Port should be linked to the trans-Java toll road by the end of 2018. The target for the end of 2018 is for 941km of toll roads to have been completed, while the target for the end of 2019 is for 1,852km of toll roads to have been completed.
