Indonesia toll road projects face construction delays

The collapse of an elevated toll road section in Indonesia has triggered delays to ongoing projects for new links. A stretch of the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) toll road section in East Jakarta collapsed. As a result, work on a series of elevated highway projects has been halted. The projects are the Cimanggis-Cibitung toll road, Ciawi-Sukabumi toll road, Cibitung-Cilincing toll road, Jakarta toll road, Kayu Agung-Palembang-Betung toll road, Krian-Legundi-Bunder-Manyar toll road, Pasuruan-Probo

The collapse of an elevated toll road section in Indonesia has triggered delays to ongoing projects for new links. A stretch of the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) toll road section in East Jakarta collapsed. As a result, work on a series of elevated highway projects has been halted.


The projects are the Cimanggis-Cibitung toll road, Ciawi-Sukabumi toll road, Cibitung-Cilincing toll road, Jakarta toll road, Kayu Agung-Palembang-Betung toll road, Krian-Legundi-Bunder-Manyar toll road, Pasuruan-Probolinggo toll road, Serpong-Cinere toll road, Surakarta-Ngawi toll road and Terbangi Besar-Kayu Agung-Pematang Panggang toll road.

In addition new safety measures are being implemented for the Becakayu toll road, Depok-Antasar project and the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.

Meanwhile funding from China is being sought for a new bridge to connect Batam and Bintan in Riau islands. Building the 7km-long bridge is expected to cost US$190.5 million.

    Plans are moving forward in Indonesia for the development of a major new tolled highway project. Jakarta Tollroad Development is at present working on purchasing the land required for a key section of the toll road. The new route will run from Sunter in North Jakarta to Semanan in West Jakarta.     A series of major highway projects are in planning for Indonesia. A joint venture comprising Waskita Karya and Jasa Marga is now taking over Solo-Kertonoso Toll Road project.     The authorities in Indonesia have set out extensive plans to source funding for new tolled highways. In all seven highway projects have been identified as crucial to expanding the network and improving connectivity for the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi, Java and Sumatra.
