Indonesia toll road projects face construction delays

The collapse of an elevated toll road section in Indonesia has triggered delays to ongoing projects for new links. A stretch of the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) toll road section in East Jakarta collapsed. As a result, work on a series of elevated highway projects has been halted. The projects are the Cimanggis-Cibitung toll road, Ciawi-Sukabumi toll road, Cibitung-Cilincing toll road, Jakarta toll road, Kayu Agung-Palembang-Betung toll road, Krian-Legundi-Bunder-Manyar toll road, Pasuruan-Probo

The collapse of an elevated toll road section in Indonesia has triggered delays to ongoing projects for new links. A stretch of the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) toll road section in East Jakarta collapsed. As a result, work on a series of elevated highway projects has been halted.


The projects are the Cimanggis-Cibitung toll road, Ciawi-Sukabumi toll road, Cibitung-Cilincing toll road, Jakarta toll road, Kayu Agung-Palembang-Betung toll road, Krian-Legundi-Bunder-Manyar toll road, Pasuruan-Probolinggo toll road, Serpong-Cinere toll road, Surakarta-Ngawi toll road and Terbangi Besar-Kayu Agung-Pematang Panggang toll road.

In addition new safety measures are being implemented for the Becakayu toll road, Depok-Antasar project and the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.

Meanwhile funding from China is being sought for a new bridge to connect Batam and Bintan in Riau islands. Building the 7km-long bridge is expected to cost US$190.5 million.

    Indonesia is continuing with its toll road expansion programme. The construction firm Jakarta Tollroad Development (JTD) is speeding up the construction of the six toll roads in Jakarta. The projects are expected to cost in the region of US$3.16 billion. These form part of the programme to construct 47 toll new roads, with this work making up Indonesia’s National Strategic Project.
