Indonesia bridge feasibility study delay

The pre-feasibility study for a US$400 million bridge project in Indonesia has been delayed. The East Nusa Tenggara bridge project is planned to include an innovative tidal power generation system. The study was due to commence in December 2016 but now looks likely to be held back. The 1.6km bridge will provide a link between the Indonesian islands of Andonara and Flores. The pre-feasibility study for a US$400 million bridge project in Indonesia has been delayed. The East Nusa Tenggara bridge project is planned to include an innovative tidal power generation system. The study was due to commence in December 2016 but now looks likely to be held back. The 1.6km bridge will provide a link between the Indonesian islands of Andonara and Flores. The aim of the project is to build a crossing that also includes turbines able to generate up to 300MW due to the tidal flow passing through the comparatively narrow channel between the islands. The highly innovative project is intended to be carried out jointly between the Indonesian Government and a firm based in the Netherlands. However finding a company able to carry out the study into the project for the Public Works Ministry has so far proved difficult.

The feasibility study for the project is being carried out by the Priority Infrastructure Preparation Committee (KPPIP). The US$887.3 million project is for the Bawen to Yongjakarta toll road link, running roughly north to south across Central Java. The 71km route has been proposed by Indonesia's Ministry of Public Works and Housing Committee. The route will feature an elevated section.
