Construction work for India’s Dwarka Expressway route is expected to be finished in the third quarter of 2021. The route should be open for drivers before India's upcoming Independence Day celebrations in August of this year. Also known as the Northern Peripheral Road or NH 248-BB, the route is 27.6km in length. Featuring four lanes in either direction, the expressway will link Dwarka in Delhi with Gurugram in Haryana.

Planning for the controlled-access expressway was started in 2006 and construction commenced in 2011. The project is expected to have a final pricetag of US$1 billion.

The project includes an elevated stretch, the first urban elevated expressway in India. In addition, the route features a 3.6km tunnel section, which will be the widest road tunnel in India.

The new highway is expected to cut congestion along the existing NH8 route and it is also hoped that it will help reduce the chronic exhaust pollution levels in parts of Delhi.
