Indian highway deals awarded

Two important highway projects have been awarded in Rajasthan State.

Work on two important road projects in India’s Rajasthan State will commence in due course. The projects were awarded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to local contractor HG Infra Engineering (HGIEL). In total, the two projects are worth US$284 million.

Both projects are for sections of the NH-148N route, which will connect India’s capital, Delhi, with Vadodora in Gujarat State. One of the projects is for a 33km section between Baonli and Jhalai, which is worth $122 million and is expected to take two years to complete. The other project is worth $162 million and is for a 45.6km stretch of the NH-148N route running from Mui, with the construction work also expected to take two years to carry out.

The two sections of highway will be constructed with four lanes in either direction. The contracts will be carried out under the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) format.

  • Egyptian Government opening key project tender

    The Egyptian Government is opening the tender process for the Rod el Farag highway in July 2012. The highway project is expected to cost US$1 billion to construct and will be carried out in two stages. One section will run from Alexandria Desert Road to the Cairo Ring Road. Meanwhile the second section will run from the Cairo Ring Road to the eastern side of the Nile-Shoubra area and the Al Ismailia Canal Road.

  • Costa Rica highways projects planned

    Costa Rica’s long running San Ramon road project is costing more than originally expected while taking longer to build than planned. The work on the 30km stretch of road was planned initially to cost US$185 million but has so far cost $287.4 million. Meanwhile only around 86% of the project has actually been carried out, despite the work already having been underway for 12 years.   • Mumbai sea link contract

    The contract has been awarded for the Mumbai sea link project in India. The Versova-Bandra Sea Link Project is expected to cost US$987.6 million to build and is should take five years to construct. When complete the 17.7km bridge will be the longest sea crossing in India. The project will be handled by a consortium made up of Astaldi and Reliance Infrastructure under an engineering, procurement and construction package. The deal was awarded by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.
