India plans highways expansion and major bridge project

Major road and highway development will be seen in India as the country boosts its network. Meanwhile plans are also moving ahead for a major new bridge project in India. Major road and highway development will be seen in India as the country boosts its network. Meanwhile plans are also moving ahead for a major new bridge project in India.

The highways development programme will see 15,000km of National Highways being built across India in the 2017/2018 period. This is a key increase from previous years. So far, 2,269km of the National Highways road construction links targeted for the 2017-2018 period have been built. During the 2016-2017 period, 8,231km of National Highways were constructed in India.

Construction work is now underway on a new bridge spanning the famous Ganga River. This 9.76km long bridge will connect Bidupur in Haijipur with Kacchi Dargarh in Patna. The project is costing close to US$776 million and is due for completion in 2020. The bridge will feature three traffic lanes in either direction and will sit on 67 supports in all.
