IL&FS Transportation secures US481.86mn loans for India road projects

Indian company IL&FS Transportation Networks (IL&FS Transportation) will push ahead with vital major national road projects after securing loans worth more than US$480 million from lenders such as Yes Bank, IndusInd Bank and IL&FS Financial Services. Indian company 3148 IL&FS Transportation Networks (IL&FS Transportation) will push ahead with vital major national road projects after securing loans worth more than US$480 million from lenders such as Yes Bank, IndusInd Bank and IL&FS Financial Services.

Of the loaned amount, $211.84 million from Yes Bank will be used to help finance the expansion of the Khed-Sinnar Section of NH-50 in Maharashtra to four lanes, while another $272.43 million from IL&FS Financial Services and IndusInd Bank will be used to help finance the expansion of Barwa Adda Panagarh Section of NH-2 in Jharkhand and West Bengal. The first project is estimated to cost about $322.16 million, while the second one is estimated to cost about $389.31 million.

    The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded a highway widening contract worth US$202 million (INR 12.32 billion) to IL&FS Engineering and Construction Company. IL&FS will widen to four lanes 127km of the Patna-Gaya-Dobhi section of NH-83 in the north eastern Indian state of Bihar. The project is due for completion in three years and it will be undertaken under the Official Development Assistance Loans programme of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

    Work on a major road project now looks set to commence shortly in Ethiopia. The US$221.7 million project will be carried out by a joint venture comprising Indian contractor IL&FS Transportation Networks (IL&FS) and its fully-owned Spanish arm Elsamex.
