Honduras highway construction underway

Construction of the 392km highway running across Honduras is currently underway. The Canal Seco project will link the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the country. Discussions regarding the bypass around the city of San Pedro Sula as well as other municipalities in Valle de Sula are being held. The bypass will prevent traffic congestion. The bypass is costing an estimated US$120 million and a consortium has looked at six possible routes. Funding for the route has still to be sourced.

    The European Investment Bank (EIB) is reported to be in talks with the sponsors of the A-66 Benavente-Zamora highway public private partnership (PPP) in Spain over a possible bond financing deal, which would see the Bank provide subordinated debt for an A-rated bond issue. The possible bond issue would be a further greenfield project to launch the European Union’s Project Bond 2020 initiative, with its initial pilot stage being managed by the EIB.
