Germany’s electric avenue providing truck charging

An innovative electric highway trial project is now being prepared in Germany. The work will see a section of the busy A5 Autobahn route being equipped with overhead wires, which will be used to power electric trucks

An innovative electric highway trial project is now being prepared in Germany. The work will see a section of the busy A5 Autobahn route being equipped with overhead wires, which will be used to power electric trucks. The section of the route between Stuttgart and Darmstadt will have 231 masts installed to support the overhead cabling. The work is costing €15 million, which is coming from the budget of Germany’s Department of Environment and the infrastructure should be ready for the trials to commence in 2019.

    The design contract for Ireland’s Cork to Limerick motorway connection has now been awarded. The design package is worth €15 million and is being handled jointly by Irish firm JB Barry Transportation, Swedish company Sweco and WSP based in Canada.     Denmark’s Minister of Transport Ole Birk Olesen has turned the sod to officially start construction of the new 4km road and rail Storstrøm Bridge. The €549 million bridge is scheduled to open for road traffic in 2022 and for rail traffic in 2023. The project budget includes the cost for demolition of the existing bridge that opened in 1937.
