Germany A7 Autobahn route benefiting from widening

Widening work is underway on the A7 Autobahn stretch in Germany’s Schleswig-Holstein area. The project to upgrade the 65km stretch of the route should be complete towards the end of 2018. However there is concern over the safety of the section being widened as the number of crashes grew from 740 in 2016 to 1,060 in 2017.

    Nicaragua’s capital Managua is to benefit from a project to widen and upgrade the Pista Juan Pablo II road. Funding is being provide from a number of sources. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing US$136 million while the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) is providing $105.5 million. The council of Managua meanwhile will provide $33.4 million. The work will see upgrades to 9.55km of the route, which also includes building new flyover sections.

    By this spring, Bomag’s new BM 2200/75 cold planer will have removed all the old pavement from a 2.6km section of Germany’s federal highway B-85. Work on the section between Amberg and Pittersberg started at the end of 2016 after the Ministry of Transport classified the road as being in “urgent need” of upgrading as part of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan. In the state of Victoria, the authorities are planning a road widening project for the Monash Freeway that will cost an estimated US$289.54 million (A$400 million).
