Flyover projects planned for Myanmar

A major construction programme worth a total of US$2.5 billion is planned for Myanmar. The plans calls for the construction of some 54km of flyovers to be built in the city of Yangon, the country’s former capital. A major construction programme worth a total of US$2.5 billion is planned for Myanmar. The plans calls for the construction of some 54km of flyovers to be built in the city of Yangon, the country’s former capital. The Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) has stated that the tender process for the project will be open to local and overseas companies. Private investment in the project is expected, with the tender due in the 2015-2016 financial year. Yangon is Myanmar’s largest city with an estimated population of over five million, although it lost its status as capital in 2005 to the city of Naypyidaw. Following the country’s improving political situation, there has been major economic development in Myanmar and in Yangon in particular, with a series of construction projects now moving ahead.

  • Myanmar elevated expressway project

    Discussions are being held in Myanmar with regard to the country’s Elevated Expressway Project. The Myanmar Government has been in talks with the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The project is expected to cost US$400 million, with work due to commence in 2019 and likely to require 24-36 months to complete. Building the 24km expressway will improve transport between the north and south of Yangon City. The project will be carried out under the PPP model, with IFC advising on the work.
