Flyover and tunnel planned for D3 route in Slovakia

In Slovakia plans are in hand for work to the D3 route that will involve the construction of a flyover, a bridge and a tunnel. The flyover lies on the stretch of D3 between Zilina/Strazov and Zilina/Brodno. Work on this 4.25km section of the D3 is costing close to €255 million. The construction work commenced in June 2014 and is due for completion by 2017. In Slovakia plans are in hand for work to the D3 route that will involve the construction of a flyover, a bridge and a tunnel. The flyover lies on the stretch of D3 between Zilina/Strazov and Zilina/Brodno. Work on this 4.25km section of the D3 is costing close to €255 million. The construction work commenced in June 2014 and is due for completion by 2017. The work is complex and includes building flyover over the Hricovska Prehrada Dam, as well as driving a tunnel and constructing bridge over the Kysuca River. When complete this section will bypass the town of Zilina and will improve Slovakia’s road links to Poland and the Czech Republic. The flyover and Kysuca Bridge will measure a total of 2km. The flyover is being constructed on 57 supports, of which 35 measure 18-20m high and will stand in water.

    Bidding is strong for the works to construct two bypasses in Slovakia. The road links are the 14.5km long northern Kosice bypass and the 8km Presov bypass. Both bypasses form part of the D1 motorway. The estimated value of both projects is nearly €580 million. Slovakia’s national motorway company NDS opened the bids for the Presov by-pass before the end of 2015.
