Finance breakthrough to restart construction of key Honduras road corridor

The resolving of financing issues means that works to complete the corridor from the Comayagua valley to Goascoran, in Honduras, will resume soon. The resolving of financing issues means that works to complete the corridor from the Comayagua valley to Goascoran, in Honduras, will resume soon.

It is understood that both the 863 Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and Brazil's development bank Bandes have granted a loan of US$145 million. The new corridor will link the south with the north of Honduras and will be interconnected with existing road infrastructure, such the section between Tegucigalpa and Flores, in Comayagua. In total, some 54km of new roads will be developed by Brazilian construction companies Queiroz Galvao and BOaEnse. Upon completion, the new corridor will be operated by a Peruvian-Colombian consortium over a 30-year period.

This follows on from a $200 million loan being provided to Guatemala by the World Bank and a $237 million loan from the IADB.
