Explosive demolition fells old bridge in Mississippi

A demolition contractor used 180kg of explosives to bring down an old bridge structure in the US state of Mississippi. The Big Ridge Road Bridge in D’Iberville was demolished as part of a project as part of a US$41 million project to construct a new interchange. Work on the interchange is expected to be complete in 2015. The work is being carried out for the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

A demolition contractor used 180kg of explosives to bring down an old bridge structure in the US state of Mississippi. The Big Ridge Road Bridge in D’Iberville was demolished as part of a project as part of a US$41 million project to construct a new interchange. Work on the interchange is expected to be complete in 2015. The work is being carried out for the 1500 Mississippi Department of Transportation.

  • Explosive bridge demolition continues in US

    Planned demolition work continues on the Chain of Rocks Bridge in the US. The second of three planned blasts has now been carried out, successfully dropping another section of the structure into the canal beneath. The bridge used to carry Interstate 270 but has been replaced with a new structure lying close at hand. The old bridge lies just to the north of the city of St Louis, with the eastern end of the structure on Chouteau Island in Illinois and the western end is in Missouri.  The final section of the bridge will be removed in due course.

    A bridge demolition project is being carried out in Boise, the capital of US state Idaho.  Work is being carried out on the removal of the Broadway Avenue Bridge. The project also includes upgrades to the stretch of road that connects University Drive and Front Street in the city. A fleet of excavators fitted with demolition attachments is being used to remove the old structure and the new link will not be ready until the third quarter of 2016. Idaho Department of Transportation has set a series of diversions in place in the meantime.
