Ecuador roadworks to be funded by US$367mn Chinese loan
The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Ecuador (MTOP) has announced that a Chinese loan of US$367 million will fund the restoration of the Catamayo-Gonzanama-Sozoranga-Macara and Celica-Cruzpamba-Y del Muerto roads.

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Ecuador (MTOP) has announced that a Chinese loan of US$367 million will fund the restoration of the Catamayo-Gonzanama-Sozoranga-Macara and Celica-Cruzpamba-Y del Muerto roads.
A new bridge link will be constructed between Botswana and Zambia in Southern Africa. Some of the funding for the bridge is being provided in the form of a US$113 million loan from the Japanese Government. The Kazungula bridge project is expected to cost $260 million in all. Close to $78.5 million is coming from the African Development Bank and Zambia is providing $1.6 million while the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will offer $42 millionn. Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) hopes to finalise a US$100 million loan with the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) for construction of new roads.
The loan, expected to be signed at the end of November, will be for construction of around 400km of new roads and 2km of new bridges. Once the loan is signed, MOPC hopes to open tenders for the projects in December.

Construction work is well underway for Colombia’s Autopista Mar 1 motorway project. The route is due for completion in 2022, connecting the country’s Caribbean and Pacific coasts through Medellin. The project includes construction of the Tunel de Occidente. A finance package worth US$713 million in the shape of loans from eight banks is helping fund the project.
Work is also ongoing for the Conexio Norte routelinking Remedios with Caucasia. This project should be complete by 2021.
