Ecuador roadworks to be funded by US$367mn Chinese loan

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Ecuador (MTOP) has announced that a Chinese loan of US$367 million will fund the restoration of the Catamayo-Gonzanama-Sozoranga-Macara and Celica-Cruzpamba-Y del Muerto roads.
More than US$260 million will be spent on creating a 157.5km-long link road between Kenya and Tanzania. Of the total with $262.2 million project cost, the African Development Bank (AfDB) has offered a loan of $232.5 million, while the Africa Trade Fund will provide a trade grant of $740,000. The governments of Kenya and Tanzania have pledged $12.3 million and $15.6 million respectively. The Moldovan Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure is investing €150 million to upgrade and refurbish 200km of the country’s major highway links. This funding is coming through a loan being provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
