Ecuador roadworks to be funded by US$367mn Chinese loan
The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Ecuador (MTOP) has announced that a Chinese loan of US$367 million will fund the restoration of the Catamayo-Gonzanama-Sozoranga-Macara and Celica-Cruzpamba-Y del Muerto roads.

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Ecuador (MTOP) has announced that a Chinese loan of US$367 million will fund the restoration of the Catamayo-Gonzanama-Sozoranga-Macara and Celica-Cruzpamba-Y del Muerto roads.
Funding is being established for the Shoubra-Banha highway project planned for Egypt. The National Bank of Egypt is bringing together a consortium of lenders that will provide the syndicated loan required. The Shoubra-Banha highway project is planned by the Egyptian Transportation Ministry. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the General Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport and the National Bank of Egypt. A 107km road section between San Jose and Limon in Costa Rica could be transformed into a large four-lane motorway using a loan from China of US$395.7 million. The Costa Rican government could add $89 million to the loan, creating a large project budget of $485 million.
President Laura Chinchilla has referred the project to the Costa Rican Congress for approval. Chinese firm CHEC will work on the design of this motorway over the next eight months. The project could be finished in three and a half years.
India’s Ministry of Transport and Highways is looking to source loans to help fund highway development.
