Ecuador roadworks to be funded by US$367mn Chinese loan

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Ecuador (MTOP) has announced that a Chinese loan of US$367 million will fund the restoration of the Catamayo-Gonzanama-Sozoranga-Macara and Celica-Cruzpamba-Y del Muerto roads.
Funding from South Korea will help finance work on a key road link for the Vietnamese city of Hanoi. The state-run Export-Import Bank (EXIM) of Korea will provide loans worth up to US$200 million to build the 17.85km road, which will connect Hanoi to a nearby industrial area. The four lane road will link the Nhon Trach industrial complex with Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City. The EximBank’s economic development cooperation fund is supplying the loans. A novel concept aimed at boost road funding is being introduced by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). The new ODOT programme is aimed at generating millions in new revenue for reinvestment into highway funding. The scheme will permit advertising and sponsorship opportunities at interstate rest areas and welcome centres throughout Ohio. ODOT says it is seeking competitive bids for the Sponsorship, Maintenance, and Advertising Revenue Tartgeted (SMART) programme.
New Zealand’s Transport Ministry has announced plans for a US$10.3 billion program to improve public transport and roads. Under the three-year plan, authorities for the public transport system, state highways and local roads will receive $1.36 billion, $4.09 billion and $3.29 billion, respectively, for upgrades.
