Discussions for Poland to Slovakia highway link

The Ministries of Transport for Poland and Slovakia have held discussions regarding the connection of the S1 and A1 highway links. The S1 road will run from the border with Slovakia to meet with the A1 highway at Pyrzowice in Poland. This road link should be ready for traffic in 2022. Also ready for traffic in 2022 should be Slovakia’s D3 highway.

The Ministries of Transport for Poland and Slovakia have held discussions regarding the connection of the S1 and A1 highway links. The S1 road will run from the border with Slovakia to meet with the A1 highway at Pyrzowice in Poland. This road link should be ready for traffic in 2022. Also ready for traffic in 2022 should be Slovakia’s D3 highway.


Meanwhile Poland is opening the tender for the ring road project around Wegierska Gorka, which will cost €359.6 million and will again be ready for traffic in 2022 if the work goes to schedule. Construction will commence in 2019 and the link will form part of the S1 route, linking with the existing sections from Milowka to Szare and Zywiec to Przybedza.

  • Polish capital route project being planned

    Route reviews are being carried out for a key Polish project. Poland’s highways authority, GDDKiA, is analysing the four potential routes for the S10 road, which will connect with Warsaw’s outer ring road, itself still to be completed. The different routes have estimated costs ranging from €5.34 billion to €5.99 billion and all connect with the A1, though at different intersections. Financing for the work should be secured by 2020, with tendering expected in 2025 and construction due to commence in 2026.

    Slovakia's Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development, has reported that construction of the 12.28km long D3 highway stretch is on schedule. The section runs between Svrcinovec and Skalite and could be opened to traffic at the end of 2016. The stretch is one of the most difficult ones in terms of construction and includes an 84m tall bridge. This stretch of the highway will connect to the section between Skalite and the Polish border.
