Denmark's Jutland bridge options

Cost concerns have entered the discussion arena for Denmark's proposed bridge linking the islands of Jutland and Funen. A new report from the Danish Ministry of Transport suggests that the cost for a new bridge could range from €804.76 million to €4.3 billion. The proposed link would be built across Denmark's Little Belt and the report says that the project would be profitable only after 2030 due to growing pressure on transport capacity. The future of the project is still open to discussion with three different strategies being analysed. One option is for a new direct link across the Kattegat between Jutland and Zealand. The second option is for a new bridge across the Little Belt close to the two existing bridges. The third option is for a connection to the north of the Little Belt, between Jutland and Zealand. Meanwhile a new survey carried out by the 2284 Danish Road Directorate for the Ministry of Transport shows that the best alternative for increasing motorway capacity between northern and southern Jutland would be to expand the present E45 motorway. The cost of this alternative would amount to €3.62 billion. The other alternative; a new motorway through central Jutland would be a considerably worse alternative, the report states.
