Demolition of overpass carried out in Chicago

A successful bridge demolition project has been carried out in Chicago Illinois. The work to remove the Ontario Street Bridge was carried out on behalf of the Illinois Department of Transportation. A fleet of Caterpillar excavators was used for the work. The machines featured demolition attachments, allowing the structure to be removed in a controlled fashion as the video reveals.

The machines featured demolition attachments, allowing the structure to be removed in a controlled fashion as the video reveals.

The firm used its specialist skills to remove The Fountain Road Overpass, crossing Highway 401. A fleet of excavators equipped with demolition tools, including breakers and cutting equipment, was brought into to carry out the work using an overnight closure of the highway. Other machines including wheeled loaders and backhoe loaders were used to remove the broken out materials and to carry out other general duties.

    Demolition work has been carried out on the central section of the Chain of Rocks Bridge in the US. The bridge lies just to the north of the city of St Louis, with the eastern end of the structure on Chouteau Island in Illinois and the western end is in Missouri. For the demolition work to be carried out I-270 had to be closed to traffic, so as to ensure the new structure would not suffer damage and also to maximise safety.
