Work is underway in the US state of Delaware to upgrade the US 301 highway route. The 24km route is benefiting from the installation of the latest open-road tolling technology as part of the US$636 million improvement project, which is being managed by the Delaware Department of Transportation. Improving the highway and changing the route so that it provides a direct connection with US1 will ‘remove the neck in the bottle’ according to the Delaware Department of Transportation. Plans for the new route were drawn up in 2005 and construction commenced in 2016. The upgraded link will improve transport and traffic flow between US 1 and the Delaware/Maryland state line, with the work due for completion in early 2019.
